Rumours (Englisch für Gerüchte) ist das elfte Studioalbum der Rockband Fleetwood Mac. Es erschien 1977 und gehört mit 40 Millionen verkauften Exemplaren zu den weltweit meistverkauften Alben. Bereits im Dezember 1976 war die Single Go Your Own Way ausgekoppelt worden. 

In den zwei Jahren seit dem Erscheinen des vorherigen Albums waren die Verhältnisse innerhalb der Band schwierig geworden. Mick Fleetwood trennte sich von seiner Frau Jenny. Lindsey Buckingham und Stevie Nicks, die eine Beziehung hatten, als sie der Gruppe beitraten, trennten sich ebenfalls, genauso wie John und Christine McVie, obwohl alle fünf in der Band blieben. Das bedeutete, wie Stevie Nicks später darlegte, dass Leute, die normalerweise keine Rolle im Leben der anderen spielten, viele Stunden und schwere Zeiten zusammen erlebten. Christine McVie merkte später an, dass sie jeweils gegenseitig über sich schrieben, daher auch der Titel des Albums.

Nicks hielt das von Buckingham geschriebene Stück Go Your Own Way für eine düstere Anspielung auf die vorauszusehende Trennung dieser Besetzung, und sie und Buckingham diskutierten darüber. Dreams war ihr Versuch, optimistischer zu sein. You Make Loving Fun bezieht sich auf eine Affäre zwischen Christine McVie und dem leitenden Beleuchter der Gruppe. Gold Dust Woman ist eine Anspielung auf Kokain. Don’t Stop wurde von Christine McVie nach ihrer Scheidung geschrieben und gewährte eine optimistische Aussicht auf ihre frisch getrennten Leben.

Songbird wurde von Christine McVie als „eine kleine Hymne“ beschrieben, die „für uns alle bestimmt ist“. Von The Chain wurden die letzten eineinviertel Minuten zuerst geschrieben, ohne dass es einen Titel gab. Stevie Nicks hatte diesen Teil allein geschrieben und zeigte ihn den anderen. Daraufhin hatte Buckingham eine Idee für den Beginn, und der erste Teil wurde aufgenommen.[1]

Auf dem Cover des Albums sind Stevie Nicks und Mick Fleetwood als tanzendes Paar in schwarzweiß dargestellt. An Fleetwoods Hosenbund sind Klick-Klack-Kugeln befestigt. Rumours is the eleventh studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac. Largely recorded in California during 1976, it was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut and was released on 4 February 1977 by Warner Bros. Records. The record peaked at the top of both the main United States Billboard chart and the United Kingdom Albums Chart. "Go Your Own Way", "Don't Stop", "Dreams", and "You Make Loving Fun" were released as singles. A Grammy Award winner, Rumours is Fleetwood Mac's most successful release with sales of over 40 million copies worldwide.
The band wanted to expand on the commercial success of the 1975 record Fleetwood Mac, but struggled with relationship breakups before recording started. The Rumours studio sessions were marked by hedonistic behaviour and interpersonal strife between Fleetwood Mac members; these experiences informed the album's lyrics. Influenced by pop music, the record's tracks were recorded using a combination of acoustic and electric instruments. The mixing process delayed the completion of Rumours, but was finished by the end of 1976. Following the album's release in 1977, Fleetwood Mac undertook worldwide promotional tours.
Rumours garnered widespread critical acclaim. Praise centred on its production quality and harmonies, which frequently relied on the interplay among three vocalists. The record has inspired the work of musical acts in different genres. Often considered Fleetwood Mac's best release, it has featured in several publications' lists of the best albums of the 1970s and the best albums of all time. In 2004, Rumours was remastered and reissued with the addition of an extra track and a bonus CD of outtakes from the recording sessions.

"Dreams" is a song by Fleetwood Mac from their eleventh studio album Rumours (1977). In the United States, "Dreams" was released as the second single from Rumours on March 24, 1977, while in the United Kingdom it was released as the third single in June 1977. A performance of "Dreams" on stage was used as the promotional music video.

In the US, "Dreams" reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, the band's only number-one single there; it sold over a million copies. In Canada, "Dreams" also reached number one on the RPM Top 100 Singles chart.

Background and composition
The members of Fleetwood Mac were experiencing emotional upheavals while recording the Rumours album. Mick Fleetwood was going through a divorce. Christine McVie was separating from her husband John McVie. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were ending their eight-year relationship. "We had to go through this elaborate exercise of denial," explained Buckingham to Blender magazine, "keeping our personal feelings in one corner of the room while trying to be professional in the other."

Nicks wrote the song in early 1976 at the Record Plant studio in Sausalito, California. "One day when I wasn't required in the main studio," remembers Nicks to Blender magazine, "I took a Fender Rhodes piano and went into another studio that was said to belong to Sly Stone, of Sly and the Family Stone. It was a black-and-red room, with a sunken pit in the middle where there was a piano, and a big black-velvet bed with Victorian drapes."

"I sat down on the bed with my keyboard in front of me," continues Nicks. "I found a drum pattern, switched my little cassette player on and wrote 'Dreams' in about 10 minutes. Right away I liked the fact that I was doing something with a dance beat, because that made it a little unusual for me."

When Nicks played the song to the rest of the group, "They weren't nuts about it. But I said 'Please! Please record this song, at least try it'. Because the way I play things sometimes... you really have to listen." The band recorded it the following day. Only a basic track was recorded at Sausalito. Recording assistant Cris Morris remembers that "all (they) kept was the drum track and live vocal from Stevie – the guitars and bass were added later in Los Angeles." Christine McVie described the song as having "just three chords and one note in the left hand" and "boring" when Nicks played a rough version on the piano. McVie changed her mind after Buckingham "fashioned three sections out of identical chords, making each section sound completely different. He created the impression that there's a thread running through the whole thing."
