For us, this quote brilliantly summarizes a song that is filled with multiple themes and many references. A reference to the hopeless feel of London (and much of the world) in the seventies, but also the parallel rise and fall of punk music popularity. Despite layers of apocalyptic themes, it returns to the immediate threat to the individual - the flooding of the Thames. This quote, and the surrounding lyrics, at once embodies the nature of how history is told, along with some personal accountability for what happened.
